BRUNSWICK HOUSE
The existing house sits on a narrow site within a small street in Brunswick. The main aim for this project was to make use of its northern orientation for a double storey extension.
Street facing existing portion of the house, containing two bedrooms, will be retained. Existing hallway is a spine of the house that connects spaces within this home and provides flawless transition between old and new. The added ground floor contains the living areas — including a kitchen, laundry, and a living / dining area. Meanwhile, the first floor contains a master bedroom with a walk-in robe ensuite and a quaint study. To maximise the use of the natural light, we have designed a bright internal courtyard that houses services and provides a convenient space for a laundry deck.
The eclectic neighbourhood served as inspiration for the designing of this project. To temper the busy feel of the surrounding neighbourhood, we used inspiration from a palette of native colours and textures — such as the green colour of eucalyptus, and a soft feel of solid timber against a white painted brickwork that brings all the elements together.
