The design for the new medical centre with its series of contrary notions – open and closed, hard and soft, black and white, aims to improve the architectural quality of Heath Road in Hoppers Crossing.
Designed as a finally carved brick box, the building is split into two volumes – ground floor is formed as a dark stable base whereas white brick provides the floating and light feeling to the first floor volume.
The rhythm and warmth of vertical timber slates and the controlled areas of green wall creepers provide visual relief to the heaviness of the exposed charcoal brick.
In the same time hit and miss brick areas on the first floor provides the privacy to the surrounding houses and in the same time injects natural light to inner spaces of the building.
