CAPTAIN BAXTER RESTAURANT
After we were engaged to design their own house, the owners of the iconic Captain Baxter restaurant in St Kilda Sea Baths building approached us to refresh their existing fitout and open up a new al fresco drinking and dining area.
Inspired by the coastal location and the heritage flavour of the existing building, we designed a fresh new palette of white, timber and rattan, with playful patterns and perforated textures inspired by tropical bungalows of the 1920s. A new pavilion structure and movable planter screens were introduced into the existing space to create a sense of intimacy and distinctive zones, all with an abundance of cascading and climbing indoor plants.
